Wilson Taylor was a Pvt. Co. C, 61st Alabama Inf. and Jesse Simeon Russell was a Pvt. in Co. I, 61st Alabama Inf. Both were from Tallapoosa County.

Wilson Taylor was wounded and captured at Saylor's Creek April 6, 1865. There is a statement in his NARA service record from Carver U.S. Hospital which states that he died of "Exhaustion the result of a severe gunshot wound to the face." The record goes on to state "Ball entered mouth emerged from cheek just above Inf. max".

Jesse Simeon Russell was gunshot in the right knee at Fort Steadman, March 25, 1865. He died May 4, 1865 at Lincoln General Hospital, Washington, D.C.
