Re: AL Regiment at Pensacola Naval Station

I thank Mr. Krisman & Mr. Pitts deeply and sincerely.

I was trying to find out more info on a notorious character and gambler named William H. Betts, born in Alabama. He maintained all his life that he was stationed at Pensacola Naval Station in an Alabama Regiment (as a colonel, no less!) when the war broke out or immediately afterward. While I never believed the colonel story, I figured he might have been around there as a private or some such. Supposedly, he killed his first man at that time and place. According to material I came across, there were Alabama Militia stationed there pre-war, which jives with Mr. Krisman's info to a great extent.

Thanks, you two, for your time & expertise.

Regards,
Hoyt Cagle
