West Point: Class of 1851 - Cullum’s Register

Caleb Huse: He spent most of his U. S. Army career as an instructor at the Military Academy, and after the War between the States, in which he served the Confederacy, he ran a school for twenty-five years that prepared young men for the Academy.

Bvt. Second Lieut., 1st Artillery, July 1, 1851.

Served: in garrison at Key West, Fla., 1851‑52; at the Military
(Second Lieut., 1st Artillery, Sep. 4, 1851)

Academy, 1852‑59, as Asst. Professor of Chemistry, Mineralogy, and
(First Lieut., 1st Artillery, Nov. 4, 1854)

Geology, Dec. 1, 1852, to Sep. 10, 1855,a — and Principal Asst. Professor, Sep. 10, 1855, to Aug. 31, 1859; on leave of absence in Europe, 1859‑60; on Board to test the merits of James and Schenkle's Rifled Cannon, 1860; and on leave of absence in Europe, 1860‑61.

Resigned, Feb. 25, 1861.

Joined in the Rebellion of 1861-66 against the United States.b
