As mentioned in the book referenced in my earlier post, the remnant of the 21st Alabama Regt was transferred from Blakely to Spanish Fort. We do know that. We also know the men at Spanish Fort were evacuated during the night to Mobile, then retreated up the railroad line to Meridian MS. This is where your ancestor was when paroled a month or so later.

Soldiers who were captured at Blakely have prisoner of war records. Since no evidence exists that your ancestor was captured in April 1865, I don't understand why we should or could assume that he was.
