There is nothing in his CMSR to suggest that he was captured at Spanish Fort and sent to Camp Townsend for exchange. If he had been captured at Spanish Fort, there should be Federal POW records documenting this. There are no Federal POW records in his file other than the ones we have discussed which cover the Fort Gaines capture and his exchange in Mobile Bay in January 1865. The gap between this exchange and his final parole is not explained.

He gave and received his final parole at Meridian, Mississippi on 13 MAY 1865 under the Citronelle surrender agreement (4 MAY 1865) as a member of Company F, 21st Alabama Infantry commanded by a Captain G. B. Gwinn.
