Hugh,

I have seen nothing else on this man. The few prison escapes from the 9th that I have seen were written up years later in the Confederate Veteran or were written as stories in family letters and documents. I do have a copy of such a letter at home from a gr-gr-aunt who married Maj. Felix Grundy Buchanan of the 1st Tennessee Regiment after the war- he became its colonel of late in the war. It's called, “A Thrilling Escape From Fort Delaware,” in which Mrs. Felix G. Buchanan relates the story of the escape of Tobe Edmondson, Tom Stewart, and John Moore on August 11, 1863. It was written about 1905.The trio practiced swimming leading up to their escape and used a long plank board as a flotation device and tied their clothing to it. It took them six hours to get to New Castle. They then made their way to the Susquehannah River, then the Potomac River, and eventually rejoined their command at Orange Court House.
