2nd Alabama Cav Battleflag at MOC?

The MOC has a flag in their collection (WD308/flag database part 3 they describe as unidentified, but possibly belonging to the 2nd. It was captured by Sgt. James Piersol of the 13 OH CAV at Paine's Crossroads, VA, in April 1865. I have studied the 2nd for years, and do not believe they were ever in Virginia. After the Battle of Atlanta, they were active in SC before joining Davis' escort in NC. Just figured they cut up the flag when they buried their arms outside Forsyth, GA, before scattering and heading for home.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
