Yes, I found her pension application. The only company muster roll for his company was dated August 31, 1863.

As there is no record for Francis, we must assume he mustered sometime after that date. This would seem to indicate that he was a Conscript either having just turned age 17 or over the age of 45 when he enlisted.

Hence, we have only the word of his comrades as to his service. In her pension application, Sgt. Littleton stated he had a roll of the company with Francis' name on it. However, that roll was not produced.

.....

H. J. Darby, Private, Company B, 9th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry,* enlisted November 25, 1862 in Ware County by Capt. Reynolds for 3 years, presence not stated on the company muster roll for the period Aug. 31, 1863 to _______ not dated,** no further records

* This regiment was organized about October 3, 1862, and designated the 19th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry , but it was known in the field and mustered as the 9th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry. It appears to have been called Biffle’s Battalion. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, in May 1865, as the 9th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry

** Certified that the Roll was made 31 August, 1863

Note, Sergeant Littleton's one record card is dated the same
