The widow possessed an amazing memory to recall routine details such as company letter designation so many years in the past. Since TNL was involved in local service for just sox months, he might not have spent more than a few days away from home. She probably never needed to write a letter to him while in service. I have difficulty remebering details from events more than twenty years ago, so recalling the company letter designation with no help would be a real feat of memory.

My guess is that the widow needed to ask other members of his husband's organzation. Since they were all local, she probably asked one or more of them who still happened to be living nearby.
