Re: How far in advance were skirmishers?

Correction:

Particular interest in the Confederate Army of the Mississippi, Bragg's 2nd Corps, Withers 2nd Division, 3rd Brigade at Shiloh of April 7, 1862.

Soldiers on both sides had been firing into friendly troops throughout the battle, and officers of the 2nd Texas wanted to avoid another such incident. They had been told other Confederate troops in line of battle were in their front. For that reason no skirmishers were deployed. Unfortunately the troops ahead were not Confederates.
