In Response To: James Marion Reeves ()

You really went to a lot of effort to help me and I really appreciate you.

You were very kind and generous with the time you took to respond to me.

There are other persons who confuse the issue somewhat. I am confident due to my own work and that of others that James Marion Reeves b. 1823 had parents named Thompson Reeves b. 1799 and Lucinda Rilla ( Cinderella) b. 1800 probably in Georgia. This couple had two daughters and then they had James Marion in 1823 as their eldest son according to my father's Record. This placement, plus the census has caused me some confusion. When he did go to war he had no home because it had been recently burned. The census did not list him because he had left home for marriage before 1850. He married in 1847. He was never listed by name in his parents home. After the death of his parents Thompson and Cinderella one of his nephews, William Alexander Scott, made application to administer the estate of Thompson Reeves. His nephew named all the children and some grandchildren. James Marion was not listed. Thompson's main gifts to leave his children consisted of several plots of land. The court was asked how to handle dividing that equally. The response was that they would have to sell all the land and divide the proceeds equally. After a lot of thought I felt that when he returned from war his father may have given him some property with the understanding that it would take care of his inheritance . In 1870 after he returned home he was in a home with all of his children from his first marriage . This included my grand father Elijah Wallace Reeves who was his son and all his brothers and sisters.

A few weeks a go two ladies who are Reeves Family Researchers contacted me that they had come to believe that the James Marion Reeves of Talladega and Munford was in fact the son of Lofton Reeves b1792 who is a brother to Thompson Reeves. Lofton lived in Lineville, Alabama This was a shock and especially since I had spent spare time for over 30 years working out what I had found. The main thing they were putting their belief on was that he was not shown in the home and he was not listed in the estate settlement. Although I was comfortable with my research I went back to the drawing board and went over it all again. I am sorry this message runs so long but there are so many times when Thompson children married cousins and lived near each other. I am confident that my research is valid and James Marion Reeves b. 1823 is Thompson and Cinderella's son.
There is no indication that any of James Marion's children were placed with Lofton during the war. They just crowded up the Thompson Reeves line.

Lofton Reeves did have a son named James M. ( I have never found what this initial stood for) I did find another listing last week and I think it is different to any you referred to.
James M. Reeves estimated birth year ca. 1826 MIlitary Unit 15th Alabama Infantry regiment Unit Company C. Muster Roll Date July 3, 1861 Enlistment date Oct. 1862 Rank Pvt. age 35 Place of enlistment Madison County Place of Enlistment State of Alabama Roll# 160 archive collection # SG 025024-1 I am pretty positive I saw a refference to this fellow and is said that he died of disease while in the service.

Sorry again this is so lenghty Thank you again for your help. Tommie
