Private Jesse Thomas Reaves, 10th Al Vol Inf

I am looking for any information on an ancestor's service. My GGG uncle was Jesse Thomas Reaves, born 1847 (sometimes shows 1846) in Wilcox County. His tombstone in Reaves Memorial Cemetery, Wilcox County indicates he was a member of 10th AL Volunteer Infantry. His age would indicate he was 17 in 1864 when the conscription age was lowered, so possibly joined a local volunteer unit at that time. Would a local volunteer unit satisfy the conscription requirement? I am fairly confident he did not leave home but I am trying to determine the scope of his service.

What type of service would he have seen if it was a local volunteer company at the latter stages of the war?

His three older brothers were all serving (13th Al infantry, 3rd Al Cavalry and 21st Al Infantry) at the time he turned 17.

Thank you
