Re: How far in advance were skirmishers?

Thanks Alan, I'm of particular interest in the 2nd Confederate Army, Bragg's Division, 3rd Brigade at Shiloh of April 7, 1862.

According to the Shiloh National Park they said this about the 2nd Texas on April 7, 1862. "The poor 2nd Texas Infantry boys moved forward (north) on April 7 across Sarah Bell's cotton field and were ordered not to fire as it was believed more Confederates were in their front. Instead, waiting in the woods just beyond the Peach Orchard was the Union Brigade of Jacob Ammen, part of Nelson's Division. This brigade was made up of the 36th Indiana, 6th Ohio, and 24th Ohio Infantry Regiments."

My next question is probably impossible to answer but I have to ask. Under the above circumstances would the 3rd Brigade have deployed skirmishers? Any additional information on the engagements of the 2nd Texas on April 7, 1862 would also be of interest. Thanks for your expertize and opinions.
