Unionist Sentiment
In Response To: Re: Henry Ary, Walker County ()

Alan - A fairly significant number of Unionists enlisted in July and August 1862, in Huntsville. There were enough to form at least two companies. Eventually becoming Companies I and K of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, these men were sent to Tennessee by order of Gen. Buell in late August/early September, 1862, and assigned as Companies D and E of the 1st Middle Tennessee Cavalry. Of the records that I have examined, all enlisted for either three years, or the war.
