14th Alabama Battalion Partisan Rangers, Cavalry

I would appreciate some help with a question about the 14th Alabama Battalion Partisan Rangers, Cavalry.

In my research for the 14th Alabama Infantry Regiment, which served most of the war with the Army of Northern Virginia, in the Confederate Soldier service records at the National Archives, I have found several (eight) men who were listed as having been captured in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, or Illinois. Their deaths or capture are the only indication I have that they were in a unit called the "14th Alabama".

I have found references to the 14th Alabama Cavalry Battalion that was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel James C. Malone. Early in the war, it appears they were in Wharton’s Brigade, commanded by John A. Wharton, part of Wheeler's Cavalry Division in the Army of the Tennessee. It appears that in May 1863 they were merged into 9th Cavalry Regiment near Tullahoma, Tennessee, by consolidating the 14th Alabama Partisan Rangers with the 2nd (19th) Alabama Cavalry Battalion. The 14th Alabama Cavalry Battalion appears to have served the entire war in the western theater.

I believe the eight men I have found (with no other reference to the Infantry Regiment) who were buried or captured in the western theater were in the Cavalry and not the Infantry 14th Alabama.

I have not looked for any rosters for the 14th Alabama Cavalry. Does a roster of those men exist that I may compare to my list?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
