Underwood from the 4th Georgia who was shocked to find himself camped at the same school where several of his friends had graduated. "Little did I think when I heard them talking of college that I would ever see it," he declared with amazement in a letter to his brothers. At the same time, he had a decidedly mixed reaction to his first view of the main building. "The College is a very fine building though it is a very old one," he remarked.
