Only the papers we have already reviewed in his different service files. A Brigadier General was entitled to have an aide-de-camp, who would have been a 1st Lieutenant. Cantey claims to have been a volunteer ADC, which means he personally offered his service and Boykin did not have a commission as an ADC.

Being one of the largest planters in the state, it makes sense for Boykin to a detailed agriculturalist. That's especially true because he received an indefinite detail. In other words, no set period of time, unlike other details where a soldier would need to report after his detail expired. The law of Feb 17, 1864, allowed the Secetary of War to make such details from senior reserves.

It also fits well within the letters of recomendation, which describe his financial contributions. The mention of slaves and other plantation produce also fits.
