Re: Colonel Charles Forsyth, 3rd Alabama Infantry

An additional card, dated Sutherland Depot, Feb. 26, 1865, Battle's Brigade of Alabama Troops commanded by Col. S. B. Pickens, states that he is home in Mobile on Leave of Indulgence by authority of Army Hd Qtrs, dated Feb. 3.

Also in his file is a letter signed by several members of the House of Representatives dated 23 Dec. 1864, recommending Col. Forsyth to be promoted to Brig. Gen'l. Notes written on the back by the President, Sec. of War, and Gen'l Lee as it went back and forth between them. The final word evidently came from Lee in a notation dated 1 March 1865. He wrote, "I know of no brigade to which this officer can be promoted."

I could not find anything in his file that indicated what he was court martialed for. Found previous threads that alluded to this, but none that had any detail concerning the charges. Perhaps related to the Battle of Cedar Creek.
