Seeking information. Smith was killed in action July 10, 1862. Circumstances and place of burial are unknown. Family history says that wife Sophia Stanford Smith learned that he was wounded and traveled to Mississippi, but discovered he had died and been buried. She died in 1907 and filed an application for pension in 1899. She is buried at Bellville Baptist Church, Conecuh County, AL.
