Records for the 36th Alabama may have been "borrowed" from the Alabama Archives around 1910-1911 by the Chaplain, a man named Hutton or Hutto...something close to these names. The chaplain planned to write a history according to the story I heard and the records, such as they were, were never returned. There is a roll at the archives but very little else.
The source for this story is a former historical writer for our local paper and many of his stories have not passed the history test after more facts have become available online. Take this version with a grain of salt.
