Perhaps the word "likely" was too strong - I probably should have said "possibly". Reading between the lines of Pam's original question led me to believe that family lore may have placed him in a "home guard" or militia unit. I was trying to point out that, if her GG Uncle served at all, the man identified by Steve as being in the Mobile County Militia was a far better candidate than Jesse Reeves from St. Clair County. The similarity of the name of her ancestor, Jesse Thomas Reaves and J. T. Reaves of the militia unit, as well as his age at the time would make him a possible candidate. How did he get to Mobile County? Perhaps he had gone there to live with relatives or to find work. Perhaps not. Perhaps he did not serve at all.
