Re: Andrew Jackson Peters, in the Alabama Infantry

These are easily located records. However, records of Andrew J Peters are limited due to loss of most company and regimental rolls for Battle's Alabama Brigade during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1864. For that reason it is difficult to reconstruct a battle by battle time line due to loss of records. It does appear that A J Peters was conscripted in August 1862 and assigned to Co H, 3rd Alabama Regt.

Mathew J Peters served with Co H, 47th Alabama Regiment. He was wounded during the Battle of the Wilderness, May 6, 1864. The battle by battle record for his service is available at the ADAH.

J K Peters was enrolled in Tallapoosa County 1st Class Militia organized under state law during the summer of 1864. 1st Class Militia was assigned to maintaining law and order in their home counties. This was quite a task considering the lawlessness of the time. 2nd Class Militia was expected to sweep the woods, hills and swamps to arrest deserters and conscripts avoiding military service in their home counties.
