60th ALA Infantry Regiment, Co. H

My g-g grandfather, Spencer Wilder Capps, enlisted as a Second Lieutenant on 3 Apr 1862 in the 60th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Co. H, in Barnesville, Marion County, AL. I've looked through these AL postings from the last 18 months, but I did not find any listings regarding the 60th. Any details would be appreciated.

I've seen a record on ancestry.com that S. W. Capps was captured during the war, but the location was unclear to me. Apparently he was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga and received an artificial leg. Also, any ideas on why he would have enlisted as a Second Lieutenant? As far as I know he had no prior military experience. My line is Spencer Wilder Capps, Lucy Elvira Capps, Jackson Thomas "Bill" Middleton, Jack O'Neal Middleton, and then me, Scott O'Neal Middleton. Thank you.
