Eleven years ago Jim Martin posted the Watts account with several followings posts -

Note remarks about the 48th Alabama at Fussell's Mill from Colonel William C Oates.

The Watts comment about his "Whitney rifle" raises questions about a sharpshooter unit being issued Whitney-contract M1841s this late in the war. Since Eli Whitney also contracted to manufacture copies of later U S rifles, Watts probably had a standard M1855 contract firearm with 'E Whitney" stamped on the lockplate.
