Did not examine all the brothers' records, but William enlisted at Vicksburg on 25 Feb 1862, in Capt. C.B. Buckner's Company, which was later designated Company C, 28th Mississippi Cavalry. This unit served as a cavalry (not infantry) unit for the entire war and was never in the Northeast, serving the entire war in the Western Theater. William was captured at Pulaski, Tennessee on 24 or 25 Dec. 1864, and forwarded to prison at Rock Island, Illinois. There he was released 26 May 1865.
