Thanks for the reply. I've tried everything I could think of to find Confederate units formed in Northern Alabama. Is there a list of units and counties where companies were formed? Jim McGee has published an excellent reference for confederate units here in Missouri and was hoping to find something similar for Alabama.
The census records and names are so confusing. I know my great grandfather appears as Asa, then as James Asa then as James Zachary Taylor and also as J.T. but I know it is the same family. George is also found in the census as David, Richard David, Richard George. The only one which seems to remain the same in the family census is Henry. I also found on Fold3 where Henry claimed the effects of Richard and signed as his brother. Thanks for your help.
