No King's Creek in the State of Alabama. Does the journal mention a site near Birmingham? That would be peculiar for a wartime journal as Birmingham did not exist then.

On May 5, 1863, Dibrell's Tennessee Cavalry (and other Confederate units) fought Col Cornyn's Federal cavalry at King's Creek near Tupelo MS.
