I have when they formed, and where they were stationed, but that's about all I have. I apologize ahead if this gets winded. But I have an ancestor who may have joined up with Hardie's but I also know that he did join the Union. I know a lot of the men would switch sides, and I am aware of how the home guard operated. The documents I found showing my the man joining with Hardie's gives a physical description which matches my ancestor who joined the Union. According to the documents though he joined the Union first, then Hardie's. On his Union documentation it gives his middle initial, but not on the documentation for Confederates. There is a family story that says the home guard killed his brother so, and it was well known he tried to stay neutral. On the murder of his brother I have not found any documentation on that and have been told it was just a story passed down so I don't even know if it really happened. The only thing on the documentation for the Confederates is his residence. I am trying to see if I can find a roster or a way to pin down whether or not it is my ancestor or not. Which there is a distant cousin of mine who has been helping me who believes this ancestor may have been a spy.? ???
