Re: Private George W. Smith of 8th Alabama

I am making an effort to develop information about by ggfather, George W. Smith. Today I discovered the medical report about his wound and just saw your report. This is the closest I have come to verifying his confederate service. My ggfather was from North Alabama born in 1845. This would make him 18yoa on the day of his wound at Gettysburg, the same age as the patient mentioned. In addition, my dad, born in 1898 often told me about how his grandfather rocked him in front of the fireplace and always told him the story about the yankee who shot him in the breadbasket. If you have any additional info about George W. Smith I would like to correspond with you.
