Wiley Johnson Brand-5th Alabama Calvary

I've gone just about as far as I can with my own ancestors who were involved in the War Between the States and I've begun trying to help my husband with his. Wylie Johnson Brand is his maternal great grandfather and he was all of 14 years old in 1861. Two letters have survived the years and a very short biography that he wrote in 1906.

In this biography, he says that he served in the 5th Ala Calvary Regiment. However, I can find no record of this. He is from Winston Co and his date of birth is 8/4/1847. He died on May 6, 1907 and is buried at Willis Chapel. I've found "Brands" (W.H. & W.L.) in the 10th and 14th. His father was Hezikiah. He wasn't in the 5th Alabama anything, either. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
