Thanks for filling in some details regarding his military service. I never believed he was an officer and given his age during the war, I think he inflated his rank given that he lived in Alabama in later years. I guess you can tell he is not my favorite ancestor. According to my great uncle, William's son, Franklin K. Edge, William could be a mean drunk. I was not told of the murder of my great grandfather until I was an adult. My last name should be Whitt, as my great grandmother remarried a Ford and he adopted her 3 children by AG Whitt. Have you ever heard of a book by James Naugher titled "On the Edges of a Mountain"? This is supposed to be about the Edges of Round Mountain.
