Taylor's army certainly wasn't involved in offensive operations, but on May 4th few if any Confederates under his command were aware of a truce. Word came to men under Taylor's direct command on May 5-6, 1865, so it certainly took longer for word to reach other parts of the state.

Best I can tell, there were no Confederate organizations anywhere near Wetumpka by that time. Dale Cox relates other instances in which isolated groups of Federal soldiers were shot from ambush during this period. The assailants could have been anyone. This incident should probably not be classed as a skirmish.
