Re: 1st Alabama Regiment, Co. F

Alan,

Thanks for your research and continued interest. Our family history says that Humphrey Hardwick was wounded at Harpers Ferry and sent home on a train to Alabama. He later died of complications from his wounds at White Plains, Alabama. Our records say he was 51 years old when he died. His brother James Hardwick (my g.g. grandfather) served in the 58th Alabama Infantry and was killed at Chickamauga on September 20, 1863. I can understand the difficulty with David Moore. There were lots of people with the name Moore in service. After checking my records further, I see that he lived in Cherokee County in July 1861 (GLO records). We always thought he served with the 1st Alabama Infantry. His service with Livingston's 8th Alabama Cavalry and later O'Neal's 26th Alabama Infantry, however, is more certain. David Moore did survive the war and moved to Lamar County, Alabama. He is located there in the 1880 census. Thanks again for your help. George
