Thanks for your time in researching my great great grandfather John McCluskey. He lived in Cherokee and Benton (later Calhoun) Counties, Alabama before the war, and according to family history and the NPS Civil War Soldiers & Sailors Database, he served in the 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry, Company F. However, we do't know when, how long, or where he served. I am guessing he was with his unit in Penscaloa, Florida in 1861 and possibly at Island 10 near new Madrid in 1862. I don't know if he was at Port Hudson, or in the regiment's battles after that. John McCluskey did survive the war and in 1880 moved with his son and his family to Pilot Point, Texas. He died there in a measles outbreak in 1883. Thanks again for your help. George
