Alabama militia battalions as they existed before the war were not numbered. There was no 1st Battalion, Alabama Militiat during the war. I don't know about afterwards.

In 1860 two regiments from Pike County (the 42nd and 87th AMRs) formed part of the 13th Brigade, while one regiment from Butler (the 29th AMR) was part of the 8th Brigade. The 8th and 13th Brigades formed the 11th Division, Alabama Militia.

Sometimes stonecutters made mistakes, possibly because he couldn't read family notes about what he was supposed to carve.
