It's really closer to the Seven Days Battles. The 3rd Alabama Regiment took very heavy casualties in the attack on Malvern Hill, July 1, 1862.

As a city resident not involved in farming, Clark is typical of most early war volunteers from Alabama. He's also single in his mid-twenties, which again is representative. It's also not unusual for these early war volunteers from Alabama towns and cities to have come from the North or Europe.
