I am trying to get some information on the Skirmish at Hunt's Mill. Also, on the First Alabama Vidette Cavalry, who seem to go by the First Tennesse Vidette Cavalry (Union) as well (any information on this would be greatly appreciated). I have the account form the OR, but was wondering if anyone had additional accounts. I had an acestor who fought in this battle, (last name Isbell) and family history relates a story that he was captured in this skirmish with several other men. One of the group of Confederates who captured him, recognized him, and for some reason shot him in the arm. Then this group was sent to Richmond, Virginia, where my ancestor died in a prison camp there.
researching the NPS soldiers database shows the following Isbell's, so appears several family members joined this unit.
Isbell, Elijah M.
Isbell, James
Isbell, Jesse W.
Isbell, John
Isbell, William
Isbell, Zachariah
Any information or other resources that will help me in my quest for additional information would be greatly appreciated. Also, any information on the Alabama/Tennessee designation of this unit or the battle of Hunt's mill.
Thank you,
Michael Isbell
