Dale,
Thank you so much for the added information. I had come across something recently about Marianna and some Alabama Guardsmen being captured and never returned home. I read the old Southern Star story about the supply wagon being a subject of one of Speckled John Ward's raids and the escort they killed; the raid and burning of the Coffee County Courthouse by Jim Ward and his men; and Joseph G. Sanders and the attempt to burn Dale County Courthouse. This is all so interesting. Like you I have tried to find Sketoe in the rosters with no success. Unless he was a substitute somewhere, it looks doubtful he was in the Confederate Army. He may not have been on raids with the 'raiders' either but hiding out until all was settled.

Do you know which John Ward was Speckled John? I have heard that he was with Co. B, 1st Florida (US). I noticed a big part of that company had ties to Elijah
Ward's descendants and in-laws. And Jim Ward - surely they were related? Does anyone know?
