Service records of this command are filed as National Archives microcopy M258, Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations Raised Directly by the Confederate Government, reel 48.

Capt. Felix H. Robertson, a West Point cadet prior to entering Confederate service, organized this company on December 21, 1861, near Pensacola, Fla. Robertson recruited from twelve-month volunteers reenlisting for an additional two years. Most had been members of the 1st Alabama Regiment, joined by a dozen men from Co. “G”, 1st Florida Regiment, nine members of the “Quitman Light Artillery” from Jackson and Natchez, Miss., along with a few others. Four lieutenants appointed to assist Robertson came from Confederate states represented in this command: Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi.

Although many accounts attribute this battery to the State of Florida, an exhaustive review of company records identified only fifteen Floridians who ever enlisted this command.
