The Historian for Co B of the 33d, Wm E.
Mathews, AKA Wm E. Preston stated ref the
18th Bn: "in Apr 1863, the 18th or Gunter's
Bn joined the 33d Ala; originally consisting
of five companies, the unit was now reduced
to three, A,B, and C"; evidentally there was
a Co D, but as with many other Confederate
men and units, it seems to have simply fallen
through the cracks.
