Company H of the 40th Tenn was organized at
Rocky Head, Dale County, Ala by Capt John A.
Minter and was mustered at Montgomery, Ala
Sep 7, 1861; Isaac T. Law was elected Capt
Oct 4, 1862; following capture at Island
#10, Tenn and exchange in Sep 1862, became
Co E, 54th Ala; later in the war merged with
Co A, 37th Ala; about half the men were from
Coffee County, Ala.
