Pinckney did in fact serve with the 6th Ala
Inf, as Pvt, Co D; go to Jimmy Allen's excellent
6th Ala site; may be something there to answer
your question:

I do know that a number of Georgians from
the Fort Gaines area, just across the river
from Henry County, Ala did serve w/the 6th;
possibly had to do with proximity.
