The word "Foshee" in Chickasaw means "bird".

The town of Foshee is located in Escambia County. If any of the Foshee family lived there, you should look in companies raised in Escambia County and also in neighboring Florida.

There were also a large number (over 1000) of guerilla troops in the area of Escambia. These were "deserters" and "slackers" of the Confederate States, loosely formed into a fighting and raiding unit. And they were sanctioned with a wink by the Union Government. They routinely made raids against both Confederate Army and civilian targets.

Some historians have portrayed this group as simply a group of lawless cowards and crooks who raided civilian towns for their own gain and food for survival. However, my research shows that while these type civilian raids were common place, they also attacked military targets and disrupted Confederate transportation. These acts clearly had a military purpose.

The members of this group are largely undocumented.
