Bob RedmanSouthern trunk lineTue Oct 24 06:04:31 2000 John,Thanks for the definitive answer. Of course it was business as usual, and this particular variation of the age old theme hadn't occurred to me.However, the section between Meridian and Selma was completed during the war, leaving the last 50 miles just staring the Confederate war planners in the face. This goes to the very heart of the question of the Southern war effort. Sometimes it seems to me that they tried to lose, and this affair is a perfect illustration of their occasional unwillingness and/or inability to "go the last mile". The complete story of Alabama CW railroads would make a very good book.Greetings, Bob RedmanArmy of the Cumberland (http://www.AotC.net)Alabama Railroads John Carter, Thu Oct 26 15:22
