Henry SealeTalledega Camp of InstructionTue Oct 10 00:33:01 2000 Members of the Alabama Corps of Cadets from the University were used as instructors at Talledega from time to time as well. One of my great-grandfathers, Cpl. William Larkin of Co. B, Alabama Corps of Cadets instructed there for a time. During the war, a man could either join a unit directly, be conscripted, or volunteer for service with an enrolling officer. If he came into the service in the latter 2 methods, he was sent to a Camp of Instruction then assigned to a unit as needed or expedient. Also, sometimes newly formed companies were sent to these camps for instuction.
