This would make some sense, as the 1st Georgia Confederate was stationed in south Alabama. Perhaps there are records for it at the BPL. Records for Dent's Battery say that the man in question enlisted at Pensacola on Feb. 15, 1862, and was from Marengo County AL. I didn't make a note about leaving the battery, but that could well be an oversight on my part. I'll try to check his record again.

For the period of time you have in mind, some reserve companies included a mixture of juniors, seniors and even exempts. Non-standard companies like these were all sorted out within a few months, so that by the end of September 1864 most were properly segregated. However, I don't believe either Barbiere's or Hardie's command ever met the standard.
