Isham Newton Parker was enrolled in Capt. E. A. Powell's company of Tuscaloosa Prison Guards first formed in Dec 1861 to guard the Federal prisoners confined at Tuscaloosa (sent there from Richmond, VA after 1st Manassas, or from Shiloh, TN, after that battle in 1862.

Where these prisoners were kept is not definitely known, possibly the Tuscaloosa Paper Mill building or the Washington Hall Hotel, or the Drish building.

This unit was later replaced by Capt. C. D. Freeman's company of Confederate States Prison Guards, and these men (not including Parker, so far as I can tell) were sent to Salisbury, NC, and the prison camp there. They also were used to guard the prison camp at Weldon, NC, and most of the members were captured at Salisbury on 12 April 1865.
