The Pope's Tavern Museum in Florence has some civil war displays including some relics.
The Forks of Cypress plantation did belong to
the Jackson family (Colonel James Jackson commanded the 27th Alabama)but the 1864 raid by Jackson did not take place at his plantation but at the plantation of Jack Peters
which was located near the bend of the Tennesse River on what is now Gunwaleford Road. In that raid, Jackson took about 150 picked men from the 27th and 35th Alabama Rgt's
(many of whom were from the Florence area) and crossed the river from Tuscumbia. Upon landing, Jackson's command moved to the area of the Peter's plantation where they surprised about 150 men from the 9th Ohio Cavalry. The Confederates captured 42 prisoners and 44 horses and routed the rest. The routed Union troops erroneously reported that they had been attacked by Forrest's cavalry.
(By the way I grew up in Florence)
