Dan,

The 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment was one unit that served in western Kentucky and Tenessee in early 1862. It had the misfortune of being captured at the Battle of Island 10 on April 8, 1862. In 1863 the unit fought valiantly during the seige of Port Hudson, Louisiana (captured again), and in 1864 it fought in the battles around Atlanta and in Hood's disastrous invasion of Tennessee. In 1865, the regiment (numbering about 100 men) fought in the Battle of Bentonville, and surrendered with the rest of General Joseph E. Johnston's army at Greensboro, North Carolina on April 27, 1865.
