This name appears on a clothing receipt register for February 26, 1863, with no other record. Based on that evidence alone, I could not comment on possible service as a drill instructor. I will add that drill masters were usually commissioned officers, almost always lieutenants. However, I do not see his name on the register of any other unit, which suggests that he may have remained at Talladega.

There was a George W. Broadhead who enlisted in Co. A, 1st Alabama Reserves. James M. Broadhead enlisted in Co. D, 29th Alabama in Bibb County and died at home on June 21, 1862. John W. Broadhead, age 20, served with the same company but was discharged on account of ill health on July 10, 1862. He was later conscripted, his name appearing at Camp of Instruction - Talladega on a clothing receipt roll dated Sept. 11, 1862. He was assigned to Co. H, 29th Alabama on February 1, 1863.
